Assam Speaker gheraoed by opposition members

Guwahati, Mar 5 Assam assembly Speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai was today gheraoed by oposition members demanding deletion of certain unparliamentary remarks made in the House by a senior minister against former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

Ten minutes before commencement of the proceedings, the opposition members led by their leader and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Chandra Mohan Patowary squatted in front of the chamber of Rai urging him to expunge the remarks made by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against Mahanta in the House yesterday.

The opposition had staged a walk out on the issue yesterday.

Later, a meeting between Rai and the opposition was held and the Speaker agreed to expunge all the remarks.
