Garo lady doctor new head of SMC

TURA, Nov 17 – Dr Rekhamoyee A Sangma has earned the distinction of being the first among the Garos to head a medical institute by taking charge of the Silchar Medical College as its new Principal on November 9.

Dr Rekhamoyee took her MBBS degree in 1973 and joined the Gauhati Medical College as a Demonstrator in Pathology. She became the Professor of Pathology and Head of the department in 2002.

Incidentally, Dr Rekhamoyee is the eldest sister of Meghalaya Rajya Sabha MP, Thomas A Sangma.
